It is a Crime to Forget Crimes

The Holocaust shouldn’t and won’t be forgotten, because it is a crime to forget about history crimes, stated Elly Kleinman in a recent announcement about The Amud Aish Memorial Museum, established to document the history of the Holocaust and perpetuating the legacy of those who remained loyal to Jewish faith and practice, and worked to rebuild the Torah Judaism in the United States. Although many would like to see these memories diminish and recede in public awareness, as time goes by the Holocaust commemoration has become a widespread cultural phenomenon, with countless books, documentaries, movies and lectures being devoted to the topic.

Elly Kleinman is the driving force behind The Amud Aish Memorial Museum located in Brooklyn, one of the countless museums that have erected in cities around the world, on every continent possible. Remembrance has always been attached to Judaism with intense significance, and the fact that the Israel’s parliament added Yom Hashoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, to the Jewish calendar, only comes naturally. Since remembering this time of the Jewish history is such an important aspect, it is no wonder that for so many Holocaust survivors and future generations, “Never Forget” has become sort of an unwritten Commandment.

Although the Holocaust is a tragedy that happened upon the Jewish people, still willingly on unwillingly other ethnic groups also participated in it, and that’s why Mr. Elly Kleinman emphasizes the importance of commemorating this day worldwide, as a reassurance that what happened to the Jewish people will not be forgotten, nor ever again repeated to any nation. We most certainly can't change the past, but with joined forces, each of us can help change the future. History can help us with this journey as long as we sustain the remembrance of the Holocaust through all sorts of scholarships, testimonies, literature, education and museums. Throughout history in general, chroniclers and historian’s urge to write and share their memories, has been the key factor to keeping history from being forgotten. Together, both individuals and societies can contribute in the fight to not allow such agonizing memories from diminishing over time.
